press "ALT"-key and objects are free to move. Press "ALT" again and objects will snap into place.

There is a disassemble button at each crafting desk. Cloth e.g. can be disassembled into 5 leaves.

When you are done researching, you dissassemble research material (10 leaves each) and you won't know what to do with all the leaves.
