Birds dropping into the ground after getting gunned down

Hi folks,

I'm encountering a serious issue here. Most of the times I shoot down a bird they do drop beneath the surface of the earth and I can't receive feathers and bones any more. Is there any way to fix this / workaround?

I have not gotten this bug, but I got something similar with my small animal traps. When i reloaded it"through the ground" it reappeared on the ground. Maybe you can reach the bird underground ?
