The best Diablo 4 builds used at launch

Post by Sylvia »

The official release of Diablo 4 is just around the corner, with a sneak peek just days away. As players begin to pre-load Diablo 4 and prepare to face the horrors of the wait, many will be considering the best builds for immediate use. With a myriad of talents to choose from, item rolls and Paragon Board's insane minimal maximization potential, the prospect of choosing the right build can be overwhelming. Players can have enough Diablo IV Gold ready to go in the game.

Fortunately, player testing done during the Diablo 4 beta and during Server Slam has proven useful for building metadata for each profession. Between the information gleaned from the beta and the theoretical formulation, players will be well prepared for Diablo 4 when it is released.

Crush the Bear Druid
Druid is the most difficult of all Diablo 4 professions to plan for. It was a notoriously weak choice in Beta and Server Slam, but was described by the devs as the most powerful class in Diablo 4 during the handicap period. Whether the latter statement is an exaggeration remains to be seen, but it does offer a bit of hope that more exciting builds will be discovered for Druids as players become more involved in the later stages of the game.

However, the best builds for Diablo 4 druids are currently centered around the Smash skill. The idea behind the build is very durable but super hard. Unsurprisingly, players should focus on Smash and Earth Barrier in the early tree, then move down for more resistances, poison damage, and eventually Grizzly Fury. In Paragon Board, players can focus on Willpower - to boost their crushing damage - as well as healing, skill damage, and intelligence.

Bone Spear Necromancer and Late Game Minion Specialization
Unlike Druids, Necromancers have a more solid version. Despite Diablo 4's recent nerf to Summon Necromancer, it is likely to remain a top choice for PvE content. In the early stages of Diablo 4, players shouldn't have to worry about focusing on summoning because if they want minions, Book of the Dead is enough to get them through, but should instead focus on damaging spells like Bone Spear. The standard Bone Spear build is fairly simple, and players should maximize Bone Spear, catch the imperfect balance, and then focus on getting sawtooth, compound fracture, fast ossify, and banish.

In the final game, though - even considering nerfs - summoning necromancers seems very tempting. Between late-game skills like Diablo 4's wrecked Summon Necromancer, such as Hellbent Commander, Death's Defense, and Kalan's Edict may not just be viable, it may be unstoppable. With huge gains to minion damage, durability and attack speed, Necromancer should be able to handle any difficulty level.

Cyclone Barbarian
Arguably the most iconic career choice in Diablo 4. It's hard to imagine a more reliable build than Whirlwind Barbarian. It has been a staple of the series since Diablo 2, and should continue to be successful in Diablo 4. Whirlwind Barbarian is another simple build. Players should focus on Whirlwind Slash, Challenge Rage and War Cry, while learning skills to increase melee damage, lifesteal during rage and any damage multipliers.

Key options for the Cyclone Barbarian in the late game are Invigorating Rage - which will provide much-needed durability during Cyclone Slash - and Unbridled Rage, which will push the Barbarian's damage potential into the stratosphere. While the item database is not yet fully populated, there are already tantalizing prospects for unique items associated with the Barbarian. From a pair of gloves that add an explosive ring of flame at the end of Whirlwind, to a familiar two-handed sword that can double blast damage. With the barbarian set to gain at release, it could move up the rankings to become the best profession in the game.

Spineblade Thief
Rogue could be the dark horse of the beta and Server Slam. While Necromancers and Wizards are making waves, Thieves are quietly tearing apart Lilith's minions at a ridiculous rate. Arguably the best Rogue build in Diablo 4 is the melee based Rogue built around Twisting Blades. players will want to make the most of Twisting Blades, choosing Siphoning Strikes, Exploit, Malice, and working their way through the tree to master skills that suit their play style. Shadow Clone is a must, and Poison Traps can work well with the build, but there is a lot of variety available to Rogue players compared to other professions.

Twisting Blades isn't the only viable option. After all, Ashava was defeated in Diablo 4 by a solo thief with a long-range build. If players are more inclined to shoot arrows, they can focus on penetrating shots. Again, players will need to grab Malice and Exploit as well as Dark Shroud to survive. For late game bow options, players can combine Ice Cold Infusion with Momentum to deal massive damage to frozen enemies, or if they want to focus on penetrating shots, they can choose Precision.

Firewall Wizard
The Wizard was the best performing profession during the Diablo 4 beta. Its overwhelming Lightning Chain build prompted Blizzard to nerf the Wizard significantly, but most of its builds are still very powerful. Despite being able to clear minions with other builds, many Sorcerer players were overwhelmed by mobile bosses like Ashava and turned to firewalls as a solution. The Firewall build ticks the boxes for Sorcerer, dealing massive damage and providing a relatively strong defense.

While the primary focus of the build is obviously Firewall, players should also choose Hydra and Meteor to complement their primary skills. Anything that enhances pyromancy, such as Inner Flame and burning damage like Blazing Run, Endless Faggotry and Burn, should be a player's top priority. The best sorcerer build in Diablo 4 may be the hardest decision to make given the potential of almost any talent tree route, but firewalls should be relatively safe, even if a skill like Hydra takes a heavy hit.
